This was my first visit and honestly I am beyond happy with my stay. It’s a very quiet place and everyone there pretty much kept to themselves as far as guests go. The small store was fully stocked with snacks and merch; got myself a sweatshirt. As far as the cabin, I was in 23. It had snowed the night I arrived so plowing hadn’t happened yet which is totally fine! It was easy to find. Parking was clearly marked too! The cabin itself was cozy warm when I entered. The only thing I suggest is bringing slippers for winter stays, the floor is chilly. Everything was clean. The keurig didn’t have any water in it when I arrived but I had brought my own jug which wasn’t a problem. Bed was super comfy along with seating for the table. The front the cabin has a little hard situation was great for myself and my small dog for privacy as well. As the snow came again Sunday morning the maintenance people plowed everything and made sure to sand the entire place. I have a front wheel drive car so it was incredibly helpful for me and easy to get out on Monday afternoon. I can’t wait to head back at some point this year!
Would 10/10 recommend this place! We can’t wait to go back! I was looking for something different. Something that we could go to getaway that is quiet! We love how convenient it is to access. There is running water, heat, and a/c in this unit! Shower and toilet as well! Definitely try it out!!!! Very nice and clean!
This place is amazing! Not only is the campground top-notch impressive, but the desert area is so well done! I highly recommend a stop here and a stay in the campground. High quality facility! My friend and I were wishing we had our grandsons with us for the desert activities.
This place is truly magical! It's like stepping into a dream! I mean, I attached a picture of the view from the bed. How does it get any better?!? We rented the geodesic dome and IT WAS PERFECT!! It's amazing how they thought of EVERYTHING! I am already planning our next trip back here. (The wife wants to build one for our retirement house!) Thank you for such an amazing birthday weekend for my wife and I. Can't wait to come back!
It’s such a unique spot—you don’t expect to find a sandy desert in the middle of Maine! The visitor center was welcoming, and the trails were well-marked with interesting signs explaining the history and geology. We enjoyed the mix of walking paths, art installations, and learning about how the “desert” formed. It’s a fun stop for both adults and kids, and it only takes a couple of hours to explore. Definitely worth checking out if you’re in the Freeport area.
