About

Wheels Fun Park was a roller skating rink that offered a nostalgic experience with a clean facility and reasonable rentals. It was popular for birthday parties, especially for kids under 8, but has since been permanently closed.

I've never been here but was planning on going... until I read the reviews. Im a 50 plus year old skater from Chicago. I have a very extensive music collection for skating.I have a playlist for every vibe you might say. My local skate rink plays sub-par music all the time, but I adapt... by wearing HEADPHONES. Please say it ain't so that YOU BANNED WEARING HEADPHONES??? In my opinion, you shouldn't have to wear headphones at a rink, but sometimes you gotta groove to your own beat. You not only lost my patronage with that move (if it's true) but countless others that may have tried you, but decided to go down the street to UNITED SKATES OF AMERICA because of this stunt. Im sure it looks nice in there by the pictures I've seen, but if you don't have the music, you will never grow past the point of kids parties where you have a captive audience. #WeThePeople Can someone please verify the "No Headphones" law???

We had a great experience at the new Wheels Roller Rink! The old “Wheels Fun Park” amusements are closed, the new renovated roller rink is excellent. The facility is new and clean but still retains an old school vibe. The rentals are reasonably priced and in new/excellent condition. The staff were perfect. The music volume wasn’t loud at all, to me it seemed just right, so they must have read the feedback. Overall, we had a great time and will be back.

Short and simple review here. There are problems that can easily be addressed and I understand why it wasn't packed on a Sunday afternoon. The Good Staff were great, facilities were clean, and equipment/floor in good condition. The lighting was great no matter where you were, and the carpet was perfect for people who are new to skating. The Bad The following things need to be addressed or I don't see this place lasting long. The music was way too loud. I love loud music, especially at a concert, but it was so loud that I downloaded a decibel app to get a rough idea and it was hanging around 94-106db. Anything over 85db is considered harmful especially with children. I'd say about half of the people there were kids under 10. However, you aren't allowed to wear any earplugs, or headphones. We had to leave early because everyone was getting headaches. The $25 pass is disingenuous at best and a scam at worst. This pass pays for your entrance, rental, and gives you what looks like a lot of video game time. It's like 5 games total. There's no air hockey, or normal video games. It's all tickets or grab machines. How to address the issues: Buy a decibel meter off amazon and use to set your speaker outputs. Then place it by the DJ and keep it under 85. That's still plenty loud to drown out conversations and keep the party going. Ditch the claw machines and put in more traditional games that people can gather around and cheer each other on. Even bowling alleys have air hockey. If that's not an option, the $25 option should be $20 max or it just doesn't have value.

PERMANENTLY CLOSED!!! I’m not sure why there are still operating hours on the website, but this lot sold to the City of Durham December 2020. I live in the area and sometimes I see people come by with their kids, but don’t waste your time. For a while it was a Covid vaccine center and now it is just parking for Amazon or the construction of Hoover Road park across the street.

Not a bad place, just think of it as the Walmart of play places. Inexpensive, huge, and on par with expectations. It is birthday party central for kids under 8. Pro tip: cash only Tip for owner: While I love that everything was free for me... Your staff did not charge me to get in, and did not charge me for the concessions I "bought." I was totally fine with paying, but they literally did not want to take my money.
