Our expectation was less looking at the other reviews but to our surprise this spot was cool and had the vibe. Brunch is kids friendly which was great. During our last trip we booked another roof top & came to know not all places are allowed for kids. Staffs were nice inspite of their busyness. Heard this Magic Hour rooftop is part of Moxy hotel. Hence to skip the driving booked a room there for 2 days but didn’t realise there were different Moxy hotels in NYC. Had to drive and pay for parking separately. Wasn’t over crowded since it was afternoon hour. My kid enjoyed & so did we!
Hard PASS. After a long waited 3 ish years of waiting to visit Magic Hour, I was finally able to make my trip align with visiting Magic Hour during their themed seasons! You all posted on social media stating the new winter theme would be up by Nov 26 and to click the link in bio to make a reservation to come see the new set up. I clicked. I reserved. I came & saw nothing. Of course once my party gets there for our reservation, we get told “it’s getting set up”…that’s not what it says online but fine. We sit and wait, probably close to 10 mins before our waitress approaches us….. but no problem they could be busy with the 3 small groups of people already seated… Let’s enjoy happy hour and move on. Happy hour is 3 drinks and 3 drinks only…. Okay sure, let’s get the holiday drink featured on social media that also appears on the happy hour menu and the actual menu as the same name. I look at the drink I order and it looks completely different. Confused I asked about the cranberry & rosemary, she said “sure” as if to grab these things for me to make it myself. She comes back with cranberries in a cup and pours them into my drink……….um? I asked again, “No it’s different” is what the waitress tells me. If the holiday drink has the same name on happy hour (Winter White Spritz) why am I getting a completely different drink? The waitress was super nice the entire experience but I think the language barrier really played a part in not understanding my frustration with the entire situation. I asked the waitress if there was anything else to the bar because the social media page makes it seem like there are many different areas and get told no. Come to find out there are three different bars for Magic Hour and though we asked several times about the winter theme for today, no one seems concerned or cared for the fact that this is the only reason I made this reservation as they POSTED online about it being launched on the 26th…the day they stated to click the link to make a reservation for to view the new theme. The false advertisement on both ends for the drinks and the winter set up completion was a complete disappointment. The only great thing we did get to “experience” were the sliders. The chicken & ribeye sliders were delicious, but not worth the trouble we went through while being there. Disappointed to say the least. On top of watching other parties that came after us get serviced quickly and with excitement, it was such a drag to be there as much as we tried to enjoy the moment. The time it took to be serviced versus those after us. The same drink but not the same drink between the happy hour menu and regular menu. They forgot one of the food orders we placed and was confused on whether we even ordered it…we did. & the lack of understanding the frustration when being asked about the area, the space and the theme we only showed up for. It’s a great concept, but it seemed like you needed to already know someone that worked there to truly get a great experience.
The place is stunning — the food and atmosphere are truly five-star quality, and it’s clear that most of the staff work hard to make guests feel welcome. However, our experience at the bar didn’t match the same level of care. The bartender seemed distracted and lacked the empathy and attention one expects in such a highly rated venue. I came here with my wife to enjoy what’s known as one of the best rooftop spots in the city, and it’s a shame that one person’s attitude can affect an otherwise wonderful experience. This place has everything to be perfect if all staff shared the same level of professionalism as the rest of the team.
Came here for brunch on a Saturday and not too busy. The vibes are on point, beautiful atmosphere. Great for photo ops so make sure to dress cute. Floral scenery, mini moving carousel for siting and taking pictures. The chicken parm sliders were good but extremely small. The egg sandwich is good, did think it has a little too much small but still good and hash browns are extremely crispy. Waiter did forget my water after telling her 4 times but that’s ok. The pina colada drink was good but tasted more on the lemon side. Did sit on a high seat which was kinda uncomfortable. If I had a normal sitting table maybe my experience would be much better. Made a reservation on open table. Cool open rooftop area. Overall was a good brunch day for pictures. This is somewhere I came once and I’m good so won’t be coming back. Go for the vibes and the atmosphere. One and done experience.
Magic Hour Rooftop is truly one of a kind! Such a beautiful spot with a stunning carousel decorated with flowers – it feels absolutely magical. The drinks are just wow, and I definitely recommend trying the cocktail bouquet, especially the biggest one – it’s an experience in itself. The food is very good, though the portions are on the smaller side, which is fine for this type of place. What I really love is how the vibe changes depending on where you sit: on one side it feels more like a lively lunch party with a DJ, and on the other side it’s romantic with a more intimate atmosphere. The DJ playing during my last visit was fantastic and really added to the night (@djkizzy) I’ve been here several times already, and everyone I’ve ever brought absolutely loved it. I’ll definitely keep coming back – highly recommend!
