About
Buckhorn Lake State Resort Park offers beautiful views and a retro lodge experience, but it suffers from outdated facilities and inconsistent service. The park is ideal for those seeking a quiet getaway in nature.

The only reason I would imagine anyone would stay here is it's the only option. We stayed in a 3 bedroom cottage. No Wi-Fi or cell service, cheap laminate floors, uncomfortable green naugihide couch/chair, poorly equipped kitchen, big security light right outside the windows, coupled with old metal blinds which didn't close all the way ensured the bedroom was well lit at night. We were the only guests in the lodge and cottages but couldn't get a functional microwave in our cottage and had to ask three times to get blankets for the beds. Again, we were the only guests in the entire park, so I'm not sure how housekeeping was so tied up someone couldn't just provide a blanket for us without going back multiple times. It was just a marginal at best experience and very disappointing that our park system is so outdated and doesn't seem to care.
Beautiful views but sad history. So much potential here if updated. Little to no cell service. Bring your own food and cooler as location isolated and no fridge/micro in rooms. Restaurant just basic. Room and lodge were clean but the musty smell needs to be addressed. Room thermostat has set limits. Had a nice time outside.
The area is beautiful! The lodge is retro, but it’s also charming. It looks like it never left 1968. Everything is clean which that is good. My only issue is that none of the trails are maintained, the staff isn’t great. Breakfast is supposed to start at 7, I walk down at 7:10 and guy is chilling on his phone in the back and tells us it’ll be another 15 minutes… Lol I know that’s not the biggest deal, but it’s been situations like that the whole time we’ve been here. All in all, I’d probably come back because I like state park lodges, they just need better staff for the restaurant and the hotel itself.
I can't say enough for the maintenance team here. I had a tire start going flat on my way into the lodge that evening. The next morning it was really low. There is quite literally nothing else around that area. The front desk suggested that I take it back to maintenance. The maintenance guy said we will get you fixed up no problem. Luckily, he had a floor jack, an impact, air compressor and a plug kit. No questions asked he pulled the wheel off my truck, pulled the nail out, plugged it and got me rolling again. He saved my butt! I had well over a 2.5 hour trip to get back home. You can't get this kind of service from a motel!! Thank you so much for the early morning sweat you put in for a total stranger!
This 2 night stay was wonderful. Clean and comfortable rooms. Pool was fantastic. The view from the lodge is magical. Tessa in the dining room was so kind and the lady cooking made the best Rueban, catfish and onion rings I have had in Kentucky. The front desk was hands down nothing but outstanding. Thank you so much 😊.
