What to Wear to Mini Golf (Without Overthinking It)
A practical guide to dressing for mini golf — what works, what doesn't, and what to wear if it's a date.

The Only Rule That Actually Matters: Shoes
Wear closed-toe shoes with flat soles. Sneakers, Vans, Converse—anything comfortable you can stand in for an hour. Flip-flops are technically allowed at most courses but they're a bad idea: you're walking on uneven turf, standing on slopes, and there's always that one hole next to a water feature.
Heels, wedges, and platform sandals are a firm no. You'll be miserable by hole 3. If it's an outdoor course, skip brand new white shoes unless you don't mind grass stains.
For a Casual Outing
Anything you'd wear to a casual lunch works for mini golf. Shorts and a t-shirt in summer, jeans and a light jacket in cooler weather. You'll be bending over to putt, so keep that in mind when choosing tops and bottoms—nothing too short, too tight, or too flowy.
Sunglasses and a hat are smart for outdoor daytime courses. Bring sunscreen if you burn easily—an 18-hole course offers almost no shade.
For a Date Night
You want to look like you put in effort without looking like you tried too hard. For women: a casual sundress with sneakers, nice jeans with a cute top, or athleisure that leans more "leisure" than "ath." Avoid anything you can't move freely in.
For men: clean jeans or chinos, a well-fitted t-shirt or casual button-down, and clean sneakers. Skip the cologne heavy-handedness—you'll be close together on the course. The goal is "I always look this good" energy.
For Blacklight / Indoor Courses
Here's where you can have fun with it. White and neon clothing glow under UV blacklight. A plain white t-shirt becomes the outfit at a blacklight course. Neon yellow, green, orange, and pink also pop.
Avoid dark colors—you'll be basically invisible. White sneakers glow too. Some people go all-in with glow accessories, which is either fun or overkill depending on your personality. At minimum, wear something with white in it so you're part of the experience.
Blacklight Outfit Ideas
- White tee + dark jeans + white sneakers
- Neon crop top + black leggings
- All-white outfit for maximum glow
What NOT to Wear
- Heels or wedges (you'll hate life)
- Long scarves or dangly jewelry that could interfere with your swing
- Anything too dressy—you're going to look out of place holding a purple putter in a cocktail dress
- Super baggy clothing that catches on obstacles
- Leave the good watch at home if you're the type to gesture wildly after a bad putt
